Pidden update: Day 2
Yesterday was the first day we had Pidden home for a whole day. It was pretty tough on us. We fed her at 10 a.m., 3 p.m., 8 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. Believe me, the time between the feedings goes by very quickly. We’ll feed her and then in no time we are back in the kitchen blending rabbit and pea food in our blender and crushing up medicine. It’s quite exhausting. Pidden is getting a little more used to it, but she still tries to worm her way out of it. The worst is when she whines. It’s as if she knows that it makes me sad and I want to let her go.
Yesterday was bad. She barely even moved. She just stared listlessly into space. I think it was the pain meds.
I’ve been monitering her pretty closely and I really don’t think she has slept since we brought her home. It’s almost as though she is emotional distraught and can’t sleep. I say this because I’ve caught her slowly nodding off, and then suddenly opening her eyes wide, as if to ward off sleep. I left a message at the vet at 4:30 this morning to ask if her insomnia is due to the medications and if there is anything I can do. I know that cats sleep an average of 20 hours a day so this can’t be good.
I woke around 4 this morning and quickly went to Piddy’s litterbox to see if she had been busy while I was sleeping. I was so happy to see that, yes, she was quite busy! It’s the first time she has really pooped in I don’t know how long! I was so excited, I wanted to take a picture! (I restrained myself though).
This morning she also jumped up on my lap for about 30 minutes and then jumped up to her spot on the couch. She is definitely showing signs of progress. Although right now she doesn’t look too happy. Probably because we just fed her the most we’ve fed her yet (60 ml). Plus, she has been munching on her dry food every now and then, so I think she is really full.
